I was all alone with the kids tonight and out of now where Thomas told me that his friend Logan asked him if he liked tots. I laughed so hard that the twins started crying. I kept asking Thomas to repeat exactly what Logan said. “He kept asking me dad. He says ‘Hey Dude, you like tator tots’!” Logan is a bus friend and I thought for sure that Logan was probably old enough to have seen the movie Napoleon Dynamite and was making fun of Mater. Thomas says that Logan is only in first grade. I think that is too young to be sarcastic or quote movie lines, so I think that its legit. I am tearing up thinking about it. If Thomas’ friend puts tots in his pockets, does that make Thomas Pedro?

The family got its first Japanese sushi meal. The boys where scared to death of the hobatchy chief. We all had a good laugh at trying to catch the food in our mouths while wrestling with the babies. Amanda was to start her first week at ISU and got to join us for the day, and we really enjoyed having her.

Sweet Corn Festival

School

Tuesday of last week Thomas was off to school. Maggie and I where sad, happy, excited, and scared of course. Thomas didn’t act to different or nervous prior to going except for the night before, he mentioned that he didn’t want to go cause he didn’t know all of his sight words. So as we where cleaning out the house for a garage sale I found an old robe that used to belong to me. I convinced Thomas that he was old enough to wear the robe and that everything would be fine. He has worn it every night since, and hasn’t mentioned his sight words either.

He was really excited to ride the bus. Speaking of the bus…Funny story. So the bus driver called the house and told us to be at the corner at 7:37. Of course we get up early enough in the morning, so we weren’t to worried and at 22 after we decided to head down as a family together. As we got to the top of the driveway, I saw the bus come over the hill. As I had the twins and Tuna, I started yelling at Maggie to run with Thomas so not to be left behind. Turns out 7:27 is our pickup time. We get to the bus Maggie won’t put Thomas on until I catch up and get a picture. The bus driver is waiting, all the kids are waiting Maggie puts Thomas on, she jumps on after him with some reminders. Everybody in a hurry. Everybody yelling. Funny I guess in hindsight. Walking away from the bus all I could hope is that Thomas doesn’t think every day is like this.

First week Mater got his first monkey bar blister. He is pretty proud of it.

Our neighbor and friend Troy was deployed to Afghanistan in July. We had a neighborhood party to celebrate and had a lot of fun. The night before Troy was supposed to leave Colleen Krantz called the Maggie and organized a little send off. Maggie worked hard up and down our road with the kids getting everyone to agree to show up. From Troy’s house he couldn’t see us lined up so when he came over the hill the whole neighborhood lined the road. Troy wrote later that in the 28 years of service that was the most touching thing he has every seen. I was at the end of the line and he may not want to admit it but, he was starting to swell up a little by the time he got to through the parade. God Speed Wieland.

Maggie took the kids to Adventure Land a couple of weeks ago, with some friends. They had a great time and everyone enjoyed themselves. Maggie still laughs out load thinking about Thomas on the silly silo.

We had the open house, completed the paperwork and met the teacher. We felt a little sad and a little happy at the same time. Thomas hasn’t acted to nervous or excited. I don’t think that he understands yet. He is really happy to ride the bus, and to carry his school supplies.

Time is moving so fast. We constantly don’t have time to get anything done around the house. Every weeknight and weekend is booked with activities. It is fun trying to keep up. Here is a visual representation of our July. Wonder why time goes so fast?

When Thomas and Charlie are together they fight with each other. When Thomas, Charlie, and Lucas are together…Thomas and Charlie fight with each other. Not to mention that Tuna is a bit of a bully and I am always yelling at him to share. A week ago last Sunday Thomas got invited to go to our neighbors house (Lucas’) to play. I loaded an extra dozen ears of corn on Thomas’ backpack and sent him down the road on his bike. This is good for everybody involved, right? Not from Tuna’s perspective. He didn’t like the fact that Thomas had escape transportation. I told Tuna during his crying fit if he rode his bike he could go down the road too.

Well Charlie is ridding his bike. We have a little more practice to do of course and he is improving each night. He prefers to hit something to stop. I just posted on FaceBook, that you had better lookout if you live down hill from me. But he understands the concepts and he is already trying to make black marks on the cement.

It is amazing that at one point we worried about Henry not walking because of the way he crawls. Go Henry. It makes me so happy to see him happy and moving.
